Editorial news

A book to discover the unprecedented interconnections and mutual influences between jazz music and dance, through the two giants of African-American culture: Duke Ellington, the great composer, arranger, pianist and jazz conductor, and Alvin Ailey, the great choreographer, inventor of modern dance.

A comprehensive historical tour of the origins of jazz music and jazz dance introduces the life and most significant works of the two artists in their respective fields.

But with the detailed analysis, minute by minute, of the choreography Night Creature by Alvin Ailey compared to the homonymous score for jazz orchestra by Duke Ellington, Walter Gaeta gives us an exciting example of the very close relationship between dance and music.
