  • It fills a gap in the Italian publishing scene: relations between Donizetti and France have been frequently neglected by music historians, and instead they reveal a lively and very interesting environment.
  • It is an important and extremely documented essay that highlights Donizetti’s “French” operatic production: it reconstructs the musical environment of the time, a colorful and mottled world, with successes, joys, illusions, defeats, librettists, impresarios, singers, conductors, composers and backstage “premieres”.
  • A quick and concise writing, direct and almost scientific, makes it very pleasant to read a book which gives a fascinating insight into the French environment in which Donizetti worked for several years.
